Mariana Pacheco-Montes, Colombian ambassador to India (accredited to Bangladesh), visited the office of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) in Gulshan of Dhaka on Wednesday.
MCCI’s Board of Directors led by its President Md Saiful Islam received the ambassador.
At that time, Islam thanked the Colombian government for its consistent support to the UN on the Rohingya issue.
Meanwhile, the ambassador acknowledged that the refugee crisis was common in Colombia too as they also had over two million refugees from Venezuela. She ensured Colombia’s continuous support for this cause, according to a press release.
Talking about bilateral trade, the MCCI president emphasised the bilateral trade between the two countries, which was standing at about $36 million. Islam and Montes agreed to work together to increase the volume to $100 million by 2025.
Montes said Colombia could carry out value addition in Bangladesh for their fashion industry items.
