Staff Reporter :
The government will be compelled to shut down colleges if the regular attendance of the teachers and the students are not ensured, warned Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday.
Education Minister said this while attending a workshop at National Academy of Educational Management (NAEM).
Around 300 college principals took part in the workshop titled “My Thought about College”.
He said most of the teachers are now busy running coaching centers. “The students go to coaching centres and teachers remain absent in colleges. This is not acceptable. Their attendance must be ensured in the classes,” he said.
He said, every college must have their own annual calendar with all information about classes and holidays. Those who cannot implement this should not take the responsibility of running colleges.
Criticizing the teachers who want to be principal, the Minister said, every one, qualified or disqualified, lobbies for becoming the head of the institutions. This trend should be stopped, he said.
“I hope that the Ministry would request the skilled teachers to be head master, principal and even university vice-chancellor. But some teachers manage the Ministers, MPs and local leaders to become the head in educational institution. It is not ethical,” Nahid said.
Director General of National Academy of Educational Management Iffat Ara Nargis presided over the function while Secretary of Education Ministry Nazrul Islam Khan and Director General of Secondary and Higher Education Department Professor Fahima Khatun addressed the function, among others.
