Colleges must have vigilance team

Vigilance teams for the purpose of resisting militancy will be formed in all the government and the private colleges across the country. The National University administration will watch the performance of the teams and will assist them to strengthen the anti-militancy drive.
Vice-Chancellor of National University (NU) Professor Harun-or-Rashid formally disclosed it at a ‘peace rally’ organised at the Krishibid Institution Auditorium on Thursday.
About 800 principals from all over the country took part in the rally and received the direction of the NU VC with claps.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid was present at the programme as the chief guest, while Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Professor SM Wahiduzzan attended as the special guest.

General Professor Shahidul Kabir and Director General of National Academy for Educational Management Professor Hamidul Haque spoke the rally, among others.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said that the college principals would have to increase their vigilance on the students. He also supported the initiative of forming Vigilance teams in all the colleges.
The Minister also urged parents to keep their children under close watch to desist them from joining the destructive activities.
Nurul Islam Nahid asked the teachers to inquire of unauthorized absence of students for more than 10 days at a stretch.
The Minister said, the Education Ministry had declared a war on militancy. “The ministry will win the war at length and eliminate them with the help of all the teachers, the guardians and the education related forces,” he said.
Professor Harun-or-Rashid said attributed peace, solidarity and cultural tolerance as the basic foundations of Bangladesh. The land of this country does not support terrorism and militancy. A few members of militants can make a small number of people hostage, but can’t destroy the country’s tradition and spirit.
 “The people vanished terrorism and the repressions in the past, still capable of removing their successors from the country,” the NU VC said.
He hoped that the ‘vigilance team’ would work actively and would eliminate militancy and terrorism.
In view of the recent terrorist attacks on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka city and near the Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj district, the Education Ministry issued a notice on July 10 to identify the students unauthorized absent from the educational institutions.
According to the notice, educational institutions will identify the students who will be found absent for more than 10 days without proper reason. The school authorities must inform in writing to Upazila Education Officer about the students’ suspicious absence. Educational institutions under metropolitan cities have to inform the District Education Officer, it added.
