College student killed by neighbour in Panchagarh

Members of Rapid Action Battalion today recovered a body of a college student, buried at a cropland at Chotodap village in Atwary upazila of Panchagarh.
The victim was identified as Fahid Hasan Sifat (18), son of Safiqul Islam of Chotodap village of the upazila and also a second year student of Dinajpur Adarsha College, said Reza Ahmed Ferdous, commanding officer of Rangpur Rab-13.
Reza said Fahid’s neighbour Motiur Rahman (19), a first year student of Panchagarh Makbular Rahman Government College, called Fahid from his house at 8:00pm on Monday and took him to the cropland.
Later, Motiur strangled Fahid to death and buried the body in the cropland which was dug before the murder, the Rab official said.
After the killing, Motiur called the victim’s father and demanded Tk 1.5 lakh ransom, he said, adding that victim’s father eventually sent Tk 8,000 through Bkash.
Later, the victim’s family filed a complaint with Rab’s Nilphamari office yesterday.
A team of Rab-13 conducted a drive today and arrested Motiur, his father Mokhlesar Rahman, mother Moyna Begum and cousin Limon. Motiur confessed to his involvement in the murder.
Rab handed over the four accused to police, Reza said, adding that preparation is underway to file a case in this connection.
