A college student was burnt to death in a kitchen fire incident in the city’s Shahinbag area under Tejgaon police station on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Raihan Rahman Avik (19), an HSC first year student of Dhanmondi Ideal College and resident of the area, hailing from Noakhali district.
Selim, cousin of the deceased, said that Raihan caught fire from the stove kept in the kitchen and the fire spread over his whole body rapidly. He was cooking for his family at that time at about 2:00am, leaving him seriously injured.
Raihan used to help his paralysed mother in cooking, he said.
The family members rushed him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to injuries at around 7:00 am.
Didarul Hossain, Sub-Inspector of Tejgaon Police Station, confirmed the matter to media.
