A college student was beaten to death allegedly by some local miscreants in Faridpur town on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Solaiman Mia Shimul, 25, honours third-year student of the English Department of Government Rajendra College.
Shimul was playing carrom at Shovarampur Bazar around 7:30pm on Friday when he was picked up by the people of one Khokon, said Billal Hossain, Sub-Inspector of Sadar Police Station.
They took Shimul to a
nearby place and beat mercilessly, leaving him severely injured, he said.
On information, police rescued the victim and rushed him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed around 2:30am on Saturday, the police officer said.
Police said the incident took place after Khokon had a quarrel with some other youths who used to play carrom there.
The miscreants might have targeted someone else, but mistakenly picked up Shimul, son of one Ishaq Mia from Pashchim Khabaspur area of the town, the SI said.
No one has been arrested in this connection yet.
