A college student was stabbed to death by her boyfriend at Kaida in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district on Monday morning. The college student’s father Shahidul Islam was also injured seriously.
The deceased was identified as Sohagi Akhter (22) daughter of Shahidul Islam at Qaida area of Nakla upazila. She was a class XII student of Nakla Government Haji Jalmamud College.
The killer was identified as Ariful Islam (26) son of Ali Hossain at East Siarchar Lalkha area of Kuturpur union in Fatulla upazila of Narayanganj district.
Police and local sources said Sohagi Akhter got acquainted with Ariful Islam on mobile phone last Ramadan and a love affair developed between them. They met face to face a few days ago and Sohagi refused love him because she did not like Ariful. Being agitated, Ariful came from Narayanganj to Nakla on Monday night and took position in the kitchen of Sohagi Akter in Kaida area. When Sohagi’s father Shahidul Islam opened the door in the morning and went out, suddenly Ariful started to stab him at random. Sohagi came forward to save her father but Ariful stabbed Sohagi also indiscriminately.
Hearing the shouting, Locals rescued the injured father and daughter and took them to Nakla Upazila Health Complex. The doctor on duty declared Sohagi dead and referred Shahidul to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Police arrested Ariful with the help of locals.
Officer in charge of Nakla thana Muhammad Mushfiqur Rahman confirmed about it. He added that the killer had been arrested.
