After elapsing of 97 days of much-talked Raintree Hotel rape, a 21-year old college girl was allegedly raped at a fake birthday party at ‘Nam Village’ residence in the capital’s Banani area at night of Wednesday.
The rapist has been identified as Bahauddin Evan, 28, son of Industrialist Borhan Uddin Belal. He is owner of a market at Banani. Evan is married and has two children. The victim filed the complaint with Banani Police Station after 10 hours of the rape.
The raped girl’s medical test was held at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday.
A team of Rapid Action Battalion arrested Evan from Narayanganj on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court fixed July 25 as date for submission of the investigation report after taking cognizance of the rape case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Delwar Hossain passed the order on Thursday.
“Evan called her around 9:00pm on Tuesday. He said it was his birthday and invited the girl to his Banani house on Road-2. Evan allegedly raped her in the name of his ‘birthday party’ at his residence,” said Banani Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abdul Matin, mentioning the girl’s first information report (FIR).
He further said, “Evan wanted to introduce the girl with his mother to tell her about their relationship. A woman talked to her over the phone, introducing herself as Evan’s mother. She thought she really was his mother.”
“I saw no one in his house. He took me in his room. When I asked about his mother, he said his parents were unwell and they were asleep… I did not see any sign of a birthday party. I got scared and wanted to go back home, but he did not let me go,” she said.
The complainant further said that Evan then offered her dinner and some “drugs”. When she tried to resist, he assured her that the drugs wouldn’t harm her.
“Around 1:30am, he raped me in his room… when I started screaming, he drove me out of his house but kept my handbag. Evan freed her around 3:30am.”
“The accused had also raped me earlier, making promises of marriage,” the girl added.
“I informed police with the help of my kith and kin,” she said in the FIR.
Inspector Abdul Matin said, “She was given treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s One-stop Crisis Centre and later taken to Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Victim Support Centre at Tejgaon”
Her physical examination was done at DMCH on Thursday morning, the police official said.
