Due to the thick fog and frosty wind, misery has descended on the public life of Ishwardi. The temperature in Ishwardi dropped by 2.5 degrees on Monday. The lowest temperature recorded on Monday (January 3) was 10.5 degrees Celsius. The temperature on Sunday was 13 degrees Celsius. Even during the day, poor people are preventing winter by lighting fires. Older people and children are suffering more from the cold in Kankan. Many are already suffering from cold diarrhea and cold-related illnesses.
On Monday (January 3), due to the cold wave flowing over Ishwardi and thick fog, normal life has become chaotic. The sun is seen after 11 o’clock in the morning. As a result, poor people are preventing winter by lighting fires even during the day. Besides, crowds of helpless uprooted people have been targeted at cheap old warm clothes shops on the sidewalks.
Crowds of children with diarrhea have been seen in hospitals and doctors’ chambers due to the extreme cold. Dr. Abdul Baten, a family planning pediatrician, said that most children are suffering from cold diarrhoea and cold-related diseases. Himsim is being treated to treat a large number of children.
Meanwhile, due to the extreme cold, the seedbed of Boro land has been covered with polythene and farmers have been advised to sprinkle ashes in the morning with water at night, said Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar.
The Prime Minister has provided 3,859 blankets for the helpless uprooted people in 8 unions and municipalities. The Ministry of Disaster Management has allocated Tk 6 lakh for the purchase of blankets, said project implementation officer Touhidur Islam Prince.
On a private initiative, Awami League leader Barrister Syed Ali Jiru, son of a former land minister and member of the Awami League’s information and research subcommittee, Sakibur Rahman Sharif Kanak, distributed winter clothes among helpless people.##
