Cold paralyses normal life in Kurigram, Sylhet

The people in Kurigram district especially the river- side poor people have been suffering badly due to biting cold as well as dense fog wave for the last three days.
The people forced to keep inside the house just after evening. The temperature has been recorded at 5 to 6 degree celsius. The temperature has recorded at 8 degree celsius at 6 am on Monday.
Although the sunlight is visible but the biting cold is not decreasing. The day laboureres do not go to their respective works due to cold.
The lower income generating groups are trying to protect themselves from the cold firing straw, westage papers and others.
Talking to The New Nation , Moriom Bibi (60), an inhabitant of the Dharla river basin said , I have been suffering from cold -related disease for the last three days.
 I have not received any warm clothes or blanket. The diorrhoea patients are b increasing in the different hospitals.
Caretacker of Kurigram Sadar Hospital Dr.Anwarul Haque told that the number of cold- related diseases is increasing day by day. Some 30 children have been attacked with diarrhoea to take treatment within the last 24 hours.
Kurigram weather office Nazrul Islam told that the temperature was recorded as 8 degree Celsius yesterday.
Kurigram DC Khan Md. Nurul Amin told that the cold wave have been increased within the last three days.
Meanwhile, the district administration has distributed 53,185 pieces of blankets . On the other hand, taking the opportunity the second hand cloth traders are doing brisk business as lower income generating groups are rushing to buy second hand warm clothes at cheaper rate for their dear and near ones.  
Sylhet Correspondent adds: A sudden drop in temperature leading to a cold wave has been hampering normal life in the Sylhet city and its adjacent areas for last couple of days as the difference between maximum and minimum temperature was further reduced here during past 24 hours. The minimum temperatures marked further falls at most places and blowing cooler winds from the northwestern regions severely deteriorated the situation making life miserable.
Normal works including farm activities remained badly affected, fewer people were found out of their homes due to shivering cold and the public places, hats, bazaars, bus stands, and other places looked mostly deserted.
Sylhet Met office recorded the season’s ever lowest temperature of 10.03 degrees Celsius this morning against the yesterday’s 9.2 degrees Celsius making the business of warm clothes more vibrant.
Meanwhile, life of the people living in the slums and chars on the Ganges basin has become worst as they experience more cold biting than that of the mainland, reports BSS. According to the concerned sources, the unusual situation has been preventing people from going outside of residences in the morning along with creating adverse impact on normal life.
The sufferings of daily wage earners like day laborers, rickshaw pullers, traffic police and farm laborers have also been intensified during the severity of the cold biting. The number of patients suffering from cough, fever, asthma and other acute respiratory tract infections sharply increased at different hospitals including Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital for the last couple of days.
In addition to the sufferings of the people, particularly the poor, cultivation, especially potato, chilli and Irri-Boro and pisciculture might be affected if the situation prolongs. Meanwhile, the district and upazila administrations, authorities, organizations, public and private bodies and many NGOs have intensified distribution of warm clothes among the distressed cold-hit people.
