‘Coastguard intensifies patrol in coastal belt’

State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan on told the Jatiya Sangsad that the government has taken steps to intensify the activities of Bangladesh Coast Guard to ensure security of coastal belts and protect the national interest in maritime territory.
Replying to a scripted question from treasury bench member M Abdul Latif on Wednesday, the minister said Bangladesh Coastguard has already increased its patrol inside the Sunbarbans to ensure security of fishermen.
The government has planned to set up 10 new outposts in the coastal belts and a proposal for the appointment of 230 people for these outposts has already been approved, he added. The coastguard has so far arrested 2882 pirates, rescued 1070 abducted fishermen, seized 313 arms and 3407 rounds of bullets.
