Coastal surveillance won’t affect ties with China: FM

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday said that the installation of coastal surveillance radar system would not affect ties with China saying it would rather help Bangladesh monitor piracy more effectively.
He said that gang of pirates’ loot fishes and fishing instruments taking advantage of limited surveillance system. “Now we can have better surveillance in place.”
During Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official visit to India in the first week of October 5, the two countries signed seven bilateral documents,
including installation of a ‘Coastal Surveillance System’.
Prime Minister Hasina and her India’s counterpart Narendra Modi welcomed the initiatives for development of closer ‘Maritime Security Partnership’.
