Coal-laden vessel sinks in Bay

A vessel carrying 1000 metric tonnes of coal sank on Friday near the Fairway Buoy in the Bay of Bengal, 10 kilometers from the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest.
The incident spot is about 10 kilometres from the Hiron Point in the Chandpai range, and 130 nautical miles from the Mongla Port in Bagerhat district. All the 14 people aboard were rescued and taken to safety.

 Station, said that the cargo vessel named ‘MV Aij Gati’ sank in the Bay near the Hiron Point when it was heading towards Noapara in Jessore district with loaded coal from the mother vessel in Mongla.
Meanwhile, Harbour Master Commander Md. Oliullah confirmed that the vessel sank at a turbulent point of the Bay.
The turbulent sea is hindering the rescue operation and to locate the vessel, he said.
The 12 crewmen and four security personnel were rescued by another vessel sailing around the area at the time, local Stevedore Messrs Nuru and Sons proprietor HM Dulal said.
