Chittagong Correspondent :
CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers besieged the house of local MP Didarul Alam of Awami League (AL) in the City Gate area here on Saturday morning demanding at least four hours of route permit for the vehicles on highways.
MP Didarul was elected from Sitakunda upazila.
Swandip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah Police Station, said, “Around 10:00am CNG drivers besieged MP Didarul’s house demanding at least four hour of route permit on the highways daily.”
Later, the MP assured them of talking in this regard to the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry in his bid to raise their demand. Earlier on August 1, the government imposed a ban on the movement of three-wheelers, auto-rickshaws and non-motorised vehicles on highways across the country due to increasing numbers of road accidents caused by the vehicles on the highways.
The Roads Transport and Highways Division of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has already issued a gazette notification in this connection.
