BSS, Chittagong :
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) on Tuesday said they charted out a plan for intensified security during the upcoming Durga Puja in the port city.
“We have listed some of the puja mandaps in three categories for providing security “a CMP spokesman told BSS.
He added 10 members of law enforcement agencies would be deployed at major puja mandaps during the puja.
His comments came after CMP Commissioner Iqbal Bahar held a meeting with Hindu community leaders and festival organizers.
“The commissioner assured Chittagong City Puja Udjapon Parisad of taking foolproof security for smooth celebration of the festival at the meeting at CMP headquarters,” the spokesman said.
Besides, he said, the intelligence agencies were asked to enforce intensified vigil in and around the city.
Hindu community leaders and festival organisers earlier said 1,988 Puja Mondops would be set up in the district while 307 of those would be installed in the port city.
They said a record number of idols of goddess Durga would be erected this year in Chittagong as preparedness was underway for the festival in 14 upazilas of the district and the port city.
