Police Commissioner of Chittagong Abdul Jalil Mondol wants to drive out all crimes from the port city with the brooms that the police used to clean the metropolis.
Speaking at a function at Bakolia Police Station in the city on Monday, he called brooms the ‘sticks of justice’.
He said: “We want to give every member of society a broom. Then injustice will be driven out from society.”
Mandal said around 95 percent people of society were good, with only the rest being bad.
“If we can bring police and good people together, we can drive away the 5 percent people,” he said.
Mandal launched a drive, in which police cleaned the city with brooms, on Oct 24, a month after he took over as the CMP chief.
Explaining police’s use of brooms, Mandal said: “I don’t pursue the policing which means that hawkers and addicts will flee as soon as police will hit the street wielding batons and blow whistles.”
“Because my government is a democratic government. They (government) have taught us how to solve any problem through discussions,” he continued.
The commissioner admitted police’s failure in the drive to evict illegal billboards.
“I can’t drive out billboard terrorists. I need Tk 70,000-80,000 every day to do that,” he said.
Now there is a democratic government in the country. This government has begun its journey through the elections following huge troubles.
