A mobile court here on Friday sentenced a clinic owner to three months’ jail for conducting cesarean section without any doctor and nurse at his clinic in Kotalipara upazila.
The convict was identified as Deshbandhu Biswas, 50, owner of Shantilata Clinic and Diagnostic Centre.
Mohammad Kamrul Faruk, officer-in-charge of Kotalipara Police Station, said Bithi Halder, wife of Bidhan Halder of Pirerbari village, was admitted to the clinic on November 9 following her labour pain, and condition deteriorated after the clinic owner
conducted the operation. Bithi was later admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Following a written complaint submitted by the victim’s family, a mobile court, led by ASM Mahfuzur Rahman, who is also the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, conducted a drive at the clinic and found that the operation was conducted without any doctor and nurse. The court then sentenced the clinic owner to three months’ jail.
