The Dhaka North and the South City Corporations took adequate measures to clean the capital city within stipulated time after the slaughtering of sacrificial animals on the day of Eid-ul Azha.
The north part of Dhaka was freed from waste of the sacrificial animals within 27 hours.
“We have been able to clean our area within 27 hours. The success proves how easy the task. Besides, all staff of the waste management department used their tireless efforts to keep the city beautiful,” DNCC Mayor Annisul Haque said in a press briefing at his Gulshan office on Sunday.
He said: “We gave you 48-hours dead line to remove the waste of the sacrificial animals and we did it successfully in 27 hours.”
The authorities set up over 500 designated slaughter spots in Dhaka to bring the unplanned slaughtering in a regulation.
The directive, however, was largely ignored in the Dhaka South City Corporation area. It was seen that animal waste were kept lying on the streets in some parts of old Dhaka that spread malodour through the air even on the third day yesterday.
DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon said, Qurbani animal waste will be removed from the capital soon. “We have already cleaned up huge waste. We have yet to claen about 2000 metric tonnes of waste. Hope, we will be able to do by Monday,” the DSCC Mayor said. The difficult thing is to clean the animal haats. However, it would also be cleaned soon, he said.
Earlier on Friday, the DSCC Mayor inaugurated the garbage management work in Dholaikhal area of the city. Sayed Khokon informed that the city-dwellers could complain through the city corporations’ website if there is any waste left in front of their houses.
