Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) is working to deliver development and civic services in the expanded areas in a timely manner. SCC is taking special action plan to improve the living standards of the citizens of the extended area, said Arfiul Haque Chowdhury, Mayor of SCC.
On Monday after a clean-up operation in the extended areas of Majortila and Islampur Bazar in the metropolitan area, the SCC mayor said that the city corporation has started cleaning activities in the newly added areas.
Special action plans are being taken to ensure all kinds of development and civic services in these areas including drainage, supply of clean drinking water, waste management, road development and installation of street lights, construction of footpaths.
SCC Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury said the area of Sylhet City Corporation has increased from 26.50 sq km to 69.49 sq km now. The government needs special assistance to ensure the provision of civic services and development of infrastructure in the new areas connected to SCC.
Noting that the increase in size will increase SCC’s revenue as well as the cost of services and development, SCC Mayor said that SCC will be able to deliver civic services to the newly added areas of the metropolis in a short time with the continuous cooperation of city dwellers.
SCC chief engineer Nur Azizur Rahman, chief revenue officer was present at the clean-up operation. Matiur Rahman Khan, Chief Property Officer Yasmin Nahar Ruma, Executive Magistrate Sunanda Roy, Cleaning Officer. Officers and staff of various departments and branches including Hanifur Rahman were present.
