The common citizens along with different government organisations, institutions, local government bodies and NGOs should work unitedly for maintaining cleanliness to improve environment. The views were expressed at a pre- ‘Cleanliness Campaign’ brief discussion organised by Panchagarh Pourashava in the sub-Himalayan district town yesterday with the theme of ‘Dump Wastages at Fixed Places, Build Clean Municipality’.
Later, Mayor of Panchagarh Pourashava Md Tauhidul Islam wearing yellow-coloured aprons formally inaugurated the cleaning campaign in a ceremony at Sher-E-Bangla Park premises in the district town. The Mayor along with his General Councilors, Female Councilors, officials and employees completed cleaning of the residential premises, adjoining roads and public places from Sher-E-Bangla Park to Tentulia Bus Stand areas on the inaugural day yesterday.
Earlier, the Pourashava Mayor addressed the pre- ‘Cleanliness Campaign’ brief discussion as the chief guest with its Secretary of Majibar Rahman in the chair.
General Ward Councilor Fazle Karim, Female Ward Councilor KA Dilkusha Biplobi, Lawyer Abdullah Al Mamun, Sanitary Inspector Humayun Kabir, housewife Sheuly Begum and businessman Nasirul Kader also spoke. The speakers narrated the importance of acquiring practical knowledge by every conscious citizen on the utter essence of cleanliness, hand wash and keeping office premises, residential areas, homesteads and open places clean. They said there is no alternative to maintaining cleanliness both at office premises, institutions, homesteads, open places and everywhere for keeping the air fresh, improving environment to attain sound health that is essential for every citizen.
The chief guest called all for putting special importance on issues like overall cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation and applying the acquired knowledge and experience from the campaign at their own homes and also educating the neighbours.
Terming sound health as the most important wealth, he suggested every citizen for maintaining cleanliness everywhere to improve environment and reduce the extent of diseases in the process of building a healthier, meritorious and prosperous nation.
