To destroy the breeding ground of Aedes mosquito, responsible for dengue fever, the authorities of Mugdapara Medical College Hospital in the capital started cleaning the hospital premises on Friday.
There is a profusion of Aedes mosquito larvae on the premises of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Mugdapara Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
According to a survey conducted between 31 July and 4th August, the most Aedes larvae had been found in discarded utensils of Mugdapara Medical
College Hospital, Kamalapur BRTC bus depot, Kamalapur Railway Station and the Shahjahanpur slum.
Entomologists have said that 80 percent of Aedes mosquito larvae were traced in discarded bottles, buckets and bowls as well as window ledges of the Mugdapara hospital. It is a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.
The situation is the same with the Gabtoli Bus Terminal, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the Mirpur-12 BRTC bus depot.
The survey said that 60 to 80 per cent of the discarded utensils of these places had Aedes mosquito larvae. Discarded tyres are the best places for mosquitoes to breed.
