Classical music evening of Silpi Paul today

Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (IGCC) is organising an evening of classical music by Silpi Paul from Kolkata at Sufia Kamal Auditorium at National Museum in the city’s Shahbagh area at 6:30pm on July 1.
Born in a family of music lovers, Silpi Paul started learning vocal music from Ranjan Mukhopadhyay, a disciple of Pandit Manas Chakraborty. Later she
got trained under Pandit Nihar Ranjan Bandopadhyay of Bishnupur Gharana and finally Pandit Arun Bhaduri of Kirana Gharana. At present, she is under the tutelage of the doyen of Hindustani
classical music, Padmabhushan Smt Girija Devi of Benaras Gharana.
Silpi graduated from Calcutta University and has obtained Sangeet Bisharad from the Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. She has also obtained Masters’ (MA) in Vocal Music i.e. Khayal from
the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata with 1st class distinction marks. She was awarded National Scholarship in Hindustani Music from Govt of India.
