RU Professor's murder: Class boycott prog on

Teachers and students of Rajshahi University (RU) began a two-day class boycott programme on Sunday, protesting the killing of English department Prof Rezaul Karim Siddiquee.
The teachers brought out a protest procession and formed a human chain in front of Senate Bhaban of the university at around 11:00 am under the banner of Rajshahi University Teachers’ Association (RUTA).
RUTA general secretary Shah Alam Shantonu said, “We have decided to boycott classes till Monday, protesting against the killing of Prof Rezaul Karim Siddique.” “We will also form a human chain on Monday morning and send a memorandum to the vice-chancellor and Prime Minister for taking immediate actions against the killers,” he added.
RUTA also held a rally in Saheb Bazar Zero Point area of the city around 5:00 pm.
Earlier in the morning, teachers of RU English department brought out a procession on the campus.
Rezaul Karim Siddique, 58, was hacked from behind with machetes as he walked to catch his university bus in Rajshahi on Saturday morning.
Earlier on November 15, 2014, Prof Shafiul Islam, a teacher of the Sociology department of the university, was killed by unknown assailants at Chouddapai near the campus.
