Clashes over UP polls campaign leaves 30 hurt

At least 30 persons were injured in a pre-poll violence between the supporters of two chairman candidates in Falsi union of Harinkundu upazila on Thursday morning. The injured were admitted to Harinakundu Upazila Health Complex and Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.
Locals and the police said that the supporters of ruling Awami League nominated Bazlur Rahman and
 the rebel candidate Fazlur Rahman were locked in a quarrel in the morning. Both the groups fought at Baro Falsi village with lethal and sharp weapons. Police rushed to the spot and managed to restore discipline.
Harinakundu PS Officer-in-Charge Mahtab Uddin said that they seized huge local arms like shield, spear, sarki, ballam and others from the spot.
The elections in seven unions out of eight in the upazila will be held on May 7. The election in one union has been postponed for boundary complication, the election office sources said.
