The CJKS-Prime Distributions Grandmasters Chess Tournament, under the auspices of Chattagram Jila Krira Sangstha (CJKS), begins on Thursday at CJKS conference hall in the port city.
State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed will inaugurate the meet as the chief guest while Managing Director of the meet’s sponsor Prime Distributions Group Rashedul Alam Mamun will also be present as a special guest.
Ten players — four grandmasters, four international masters and two FIDE masters — will take part in the nine-round robin league system competition.
CJKS General Secretary AZM Nairuddin disclosed this at a press conference at CJKS office at MA Aziz Stadium on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong M Mesbahuddin and Vice-president of Bangladesh Chess Federation Syed Shahabuddin Shamim spoke on the occasion while Vice-president of Chittagong Division Sports Association Alhaj Ali Abbas was also present.
Participating players are: GM Tahir Vakhidov (UZK), WGM Katarzyna Toma (POL), GM Abdullah-Al-Rakib (BAN), GM Niaz Morshed (BAN), IM Ashok Khamparia (IND), IM Somak Pallit (IND), IM Minhazuddin Sagar (BAN), IM Abu Shufian Shakil (BAN), FM SK Nasir Ahmed (BAN) and FM Khondokar Aminul Islam (BAN).
A budget of Tk 14.32 lakh was earmarked for the tournament.
