Staff Reporter :Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on Thursday urged the judges to deliver judgment in time and to stay above criticism. He said this while addressing a program at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium organized in memory of eminent lawyer late Mahmudul Islam. Law and Parliament Affairs Minister Anisul Huq was present as a special guest at the program. Prominent lawyers, including Bar Association Vice- Chairman Abdul Baset Mazumder, General Secretary Yousuf Hossain Humayun, former and incumbent judges, , Members of Parliament and Mahmudul Islam’s family members were also present. Dr. Kamal Hossain, Barrister Rafiqul Haq, Barrister Amir Ul Islam, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, former Chief Justice M Ruhul Amin, Mahbub Ali MP, M Aminul Islam, former Law Minister Abdul Matin Khasru, Justice Syed Refat Ahmed, Justice Iman Ali, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and former Justice Kazi Ebadul Haq also spoke at the program. The Chief Justice said, “Law does not know an individual. It works to ensure justice only. The Constitution of a country is based on law, not on whims of individual.”He said, Mahmudul Islam was a man of ideal. Mahmudul Islam once criticized a sitting judge for coming late. He disfavoured the system of hearing a case by a bench of two to five judges. He viewed in favour of hearing five cases separately by five judges to reduce the burden of pending cases.The Chief Justice stressed on the independence of the judiciary, and urged the legislature not to interfere into the judiciary and vice-versa. He said when the legislation makes any law, it should be for the welfare of the whole nation.
