Law Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday urged newly appointed Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain to launch a probe into the corruption allegations against apex court officials brought by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.
The Law Minister made the call during a courtesy meeting with the Chief Justice at his Supreme Court office.
“Senior lawyers also agreed with the Attorney General. I discussed the allegations of corruption and irregularities at the Supreme Court with the Chief Justice. I told him that the allegations need to be investigated and he assured me of taking steps in this regard,” he said.
At a reception accorded to new Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain at the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam alleged that a large portion of court officials and employees are involved in corruption.
He had also said, “What is discussed now about different High Court Benches can’t be expressed in words. If this situation continues, it’ll be difficult for those who are still honest to maintain their honesty.”
Mentioning that the Law Ministry works as a bridge among the three state organs — legislature, executive and judiciary, Anisul said there will be no lack of cooperation from his part to maintain this bridge.
The Law Minister also said new judges will be recruited to the Supreme Court soon.
