Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has taken an initiative to accelerate the judicial works of Supreme Court, creating 11 new posts, including the post of a registrar general. He also proposed for a separate registrar exclusively for the Appellate Division of Supreme Court.
According to sources, Justice Sinha has already sent a proposal to the Law Ministry to create 11 new posts for the administrative works of the apex court. The proposal includes the creation of the post of personal secretary for the registrar general, personal staffs for the registrars, two drivers and four other staffs for the official works at the registrar’s office of the appellate division.
These posts are required for the duly execution of the administrative works of the country’s highest court, the proposal suggested. Besides, it would also speed up the judicial works and reduce the case backlogs, added the proposal.
As per the proposal of Justice Sinha, the registrar of the Supreme Court would be the registrar general of it. If the proposal gets the nod from the Law Ministry, it would go to the Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of Finance respectively.
The Law Ministry will circulate the gazette in this regard after the approval of the Finance Ministry.
The sources said, Justice Sinha has come up with a series of initiatives to further dignify the judiciary since his induction as the 21st chief justice of the country on January 12. He has made the recommendation to create the new 11 posts as part of the initiatives.
Presently, two additional registrars, eight deputy registrars and 11 assistant registrars are working in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, while it’s Appellate Division has one additional registrar, one deputy registrars and three assistant registrars.
Meanwhile, the government has already appointed 10 additional judges to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court recently.
