Chief Justice (CJ) of Bangladesh Md Muzammel Hossain addressing a view exchange meeting at Barisal district Bar Association on Wednesday afternoon urged for speedy resolving of case-jams in the courts.
He also called for expanding practice of alternative dispute resolution system for timely giving proper justice to the seekers. The programme was presided over by Advocate K M Jahangir , President of Barisal District Bar Association.
Anwarul Haque, District and Session Judge, Shohidul Alam, Deputy Commissioner, leaders and members of Bar Association, officials of judiciary, administration and police attended the programme.
However, Adv Mohsin Montu, BNP leader and Secretary and many BNP activists and also members of the Bar were absence in the programme.
The CJ also visited different courts, district record room and observing court sessions expressed his dissatisfactions for the slow speed of resolving cases.
The CJ in exchanging views with advocates said, Bar and bench are related with each other in ending sufferings of the justice seeking people for resolving case-jam. All should follow modern system of judiciary to resolve disputes and get justice timely for making good governance up to grass root level.
Increasing expenses of litigation, delay in disposal of cases and huge backlogs in legal system may shaken the confidence of people in the judiciary. Introducing and expanding the cost-effective ADR system will speed up justice delivery system and would be fruitful in ending jams of cases, especially in resolving family and civil matters, the CJ opined.
The Chief Justice also assured that any irregularity in judiciary would not be tolerated as mass people came in the court seeking justice, not harassments.
The CJ also asked the judicial officials to perform their duties timely using court-hours fully to ensure speeding the justice for the people.
On other hand, leaders of the bar association urged construction of judicial and magistrate court buildings, ending shortages of judicial magistrates and judges for preventing case-jam, speeding up trial procedures and delivery of judgments.
The CJ on his tour in Barisal and Patuakhali towns reached Barisal by road accompanied with his personal officials and staffs on Tuesday night and stayed at Barisal Circuit House.
