CJ assures of women-friendly environment on the court premises

Chief Jusitce Hasan Foez Siddique has assured of his full support for creating a women-friendly environment and infrastructure development for the legal aid seekers, justice-seeking and working women on the court premises.
He gave the assurance at a discussion program held under the banner of “The role of women lawyers in improving the quality of government legal services in the higher judiciary and gender equality is the paramount today for a sustainable future”.
The Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee and a rights organisation, Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), organised the programme on Tuesday on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The Chief Justice as the chief guest also said that ‘it is not only the professional but also the moral responsibility of every lawyer to stand by in the court a helpless litigant subject to proper preparation and to provide appropriate services through sensitive conduct.
Especially the role of panel lawyers is invaluable in providing quality government legal services to the helpless litigants in court, added the Chief Justice.
He said the Constitution of the country has ensured the legitimate rights of the women and the equal rights for the men and the women with the aim of eliminating oppression and deprivation of women throughout the ages and establishing equality between the men and the women.
The Chief Justice said, “So far, a total of 7,14,115 people have received the government legal services across the country, out of which 3,35,698 are women. Unless the government legal aid programmes are taken these large number of women may be compelled to endure nasty harassment for lack of money or ability.”
Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Attorney General AM Amin Uddin attended the programme as the special guests and Justice Jahangir Hossain, Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee, presided over the programme.
