Civil society’s outline for ending pol crisis

Some members of the civil society are now preparing an outline for national dialogue with a view to ending the ongoing political crisis. They will place their proposed outline within short time.
Sources said that the civil society members in their outline would place the proposals of strengthening the Election Commission (EC), amending the Constitution and the proposal for election-time government system. They have been working for preparing the outline for a month. Their work is now in final stage and they may place their proposed outline through a press conference in the city next week.
Dr Shahdeen Malik, a senior lawyer, on Tuesday told The New Nation that they are working to prepare a ‘long-term suggestion paper for the solution. “The nation faces crisis each five year centering the national election. We are working so that the nation can get out of this circle,” he said.
The civil society representatives earlier placed the proposal of national dialogue to end the ongoing political crisis. They also suggested the formation national charter for the permanent solution. A panel headed by former Chief Election Commissioner Dr ATM Shamsul Huda was set up to bring the Awami League and the BNP to the talks table and work for permanent solution for the election-time crisis.
This panel is now working for the outline. A source said that the civil socity members would try to keep BRAC Chairman Fazle Hasan Abed taking part in their move. Abed has the consent with the civil society’s move. But he is still not keen to emerge publicly.
Dr Shahdeen Malik said Abed has not joined with them till now. He, however, said that they would try to include more professionals and noted citizens with them. About placing their proposal, he said, “We will place it for the nation and the political parties. If they agree to accept the proposals, then our move will be fruitful.” The civil society members held a meeting at BRAC INN in Mohakhali in the city on Monday evening. Dr ATM Shamsul Huda, advisers to former caretaker government M Hafizuddin Khan Rahseda K Chowdhury and Gitiara Shafia Chowdhury, former Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Sakhawat Hossain, Dr Shahdeen Malik and Dr Badiul Alam Majumder attended the meeting, among others.
Badiul Alam Majumder, secretary of Susashoner Jonya Nagorik (Sujon), admitted the report of the meeting, saying that they sat for reviewing their move of preparing outline. He, however, said that they are thinking to place one more formulas for solution.
