Civil society enjoying full freedom of speech: President

President Abdul Hamid on Monday said that country’s civil society is enjoying full freedom to express their opinion.
“The civil society of the country has been given full freedom to express their views,” he said while the outgoing non-resident Ambassador of Belgium to Bangladesh Pierre Vaesen made a farewell call on the President at Bangabhaban here. The President made the remark while the outgoing ambassador commented that Bangladesh has a vibrant civil society, President’s Press secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS after the meeting.
During the meeting, President Abdul Hamid recalled with gratitude that Belgium is one of the first countries which recognized Bangladesh as a sovereign and independent country on 4th February in 1972.
The President stressed that there is ample opportunity and wide scope to develop meaningful collaboration between the two friendly countries.
The President underscored the need for exchanging visits of business delegations and Member of Parliament to promote bilateral relations between the two countries.
The ambassador said Belgium is giving some scholarships for Bangladeshi students to study in Belgium. Bangladeshi students do not need to go Delhi anymore for getting student visa for Belgium.
He also said Swedish Embassy in Dhaka will process the short-term visa of Belgium for Bangladeshi nationals.
