UNB, Dhaka :
As elections to Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporations are drawing near, candidates passed busy hours in their electioneering to woo voters on Saturday.
Like previous days, the candidates knocked on voters door-to-door with electoral pledges, shook hands with them, hugged them and sought their votes and blessings in the elections slated for April 28.
Flanked by local Awami League MP Elias Uddin Mollah and other party leaders and activists, mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Huq started his Saturday’s election campaign at Alugdi Bazar of Mirpur Section-12 at 9:30am and sought votes at different places, including Extension Pallabi, Duaripara, Rupnagar and Mirpur Section-2.
The Awami League-backed Annisul sought votes assuring people of solving the common problems of the city if they elect him on April 28.
During the campaign, his supporters chanted slogans and distributed leaflets seeking votes in favour of his ‘Table Clock’ symbol.
Besides, Annisul Huq shared his light moments with students of Rupnagar Government High School.
Talking to reporters during his campaign at Mirpur, Annisul condemned the sexual assaults on women by rowdy men during Pahela Baishakh celebrations on the Dhaka University campus. He said, he has a plan to bring the entire city under CCTV surveillance if he is elected.
Later, he went to Gulshan where he along with cultural personalities picked up brooms and cleaned road adjacent to the Gulshan Park.
Meanwhile, BNP-backed mayoral contender for DNCC Tabith Awal kicked off his campaign for Saturday in the city’s Gabtali area in the morning.
Talking to the journalists, he alleged that his supporters face obstructions from his rival contestants during the campaign. “My supporters come under attack regularly by the men of other candidates. Their names are being implicated in ‘false’ cases with a view to keep them out of election campaign,” he alleged.
He also alleged that his supporters were also being arrested from election campaigns. Tabith demanded the army to be deployed in the elections claiming that the level-playing field for all candidates has not been ensured yet.
Flanked by BNP executive committee member Shama Obaid and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party-Jagpa president Shafiul Alam Pradhan and other BNP leaders Tabith sought votes in Gabtoli, Darus Salam, Kallyanpur, Paikpara, Pirerbagh, Mirpur Section-1, Mirpur Section-2 and Rupnagar.
In Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections, AL-supported mayoral candidate for DSCC Sayeed Khokon began his day’s campaign at Hazaribagh Jhawchor Boro Mosque at around 10.30am and begged votes at Ward No 55, 56 and 57 in the city’s Kamrangirchar areas.
