After taking charge of the city Mayor AJM Nasiruddin on Sunday afternoon vows to mitigate the prevailing water logging in the city on priority basis. He assures the city dwellers to undertake the work for resolving the prevailing prime problems of water logging. He also warned that he will not tolerate any irregularities and corruptions in the corporation any more during his tenure.
‘The newly elected city mayor AJM Nasiruddin has assumed the charges formally as Mayor of the port city from Acting Mayor Md. Hossain on Sunday under section 23 of City corporation Act-2009. At the same time 41 general councilors, 14 reserved women councilor also take charge simultaneously. Among others, elderly Awami league leader Isha q Miah, CCC secretary Rashid Ahmed, chief executive officer of CCC Kazi Md. Shamul Alam and the personal secretary to Mayor Manzoorul Islam were present on the occasion. CCC sources said city Mayor turns over CCC office at 11 am and participated the Khatme Quoran, Milad and doa mahfil arranged at Abdus sattar auditorium before taking charge officially.
Mentionable that during 15 years tenure of the former Mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury, the water logging of the city could not resolved as such he was defeated by the immediate past Mayor Manzoor Alam by 95 thousand votes in 2010 . But the commitment of the former Mayor Manzoor Alam could not be fulfilled during his tenure . Now AJM Nasir elected city Mayor with commitment of resolving the same problems of the city but city dwellers will watch how a the new Mayor is successful in his mission, sources said.
