Noman Mosharef :
The residents of the capital city Dhaka are suffering from excessive mosquito disturbance.
As like as previous years, after the ending of winter and the beginning of summer the spreading of mosquito has started across the capital area.
City dwellers from Uttara, Rampura, Badda, Mirpur, Gabtoli, Shyamoli, Jatrabari, Lalbagh and Sanir Akhra have reported presence of mosquito menace. The intensity of mosquito menace has been increasing day by day.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) are responsible to eliminate mosquito. City Corporations claimed that the mosquito eliminating drive is going on. But they acknowledged that they were not operating combing operation to destroy mosquito larva.
Two City Corporations health officials claimed that the situation over mosquito menace is under control adding there are plenty of medicine for eliminating mosquito reserved.
Capital Khilgoan Natunbagh society area’s private service holder resident Mim Akter said, there is ditch-canal beside our society area, an ideal place for mosquito breeding. From afternoon the disturbance of mosquito started making the situation intolerable.
She said the mosquito menace has increased at night for almost a month. This problem has arisen due to not cleaning the ditch-canal next to the house.
Mausumi Akhter, a resident of Rampura, said that when the window was opened, mosquitoes rushed into the room. The situation is similar in Hatirjheel area.
Golam Mostafa Sarwar, Deputy Chief Health officer of DNCC said that seven to eight months would go well with the stock of pesticides. It will be stored again before it is finished.
Citing a sudden increase in mosquito disturbance, he said the water had receded. So the water density has increased and become dirtier. Culex mosquitoes grow in dirty water. So from this time the Culex mosquito grows.
Although the mosquito menace has started, the official thinks that the mosquitoes are at a tolerable level and much less than last time.
Fazle Shamsul Kabir, acting chief health officer of DSCC said, “As far as I know, Culex mosquitoes were under control this season, but they are still there.” Even after that, I am asking the officers and supervisors of the affected areas to take urgent action.
