Sachetan Nagarik Forum arranged a press conference at Chittagong Press Club hall on Tuesday after completion of four years anniversary of the assumption of City Mayor on June 17 last.
The title of the press meet was ‘ Discontent and grievances of City Dewellers’ . Convenor of the Forum Advocate Anowarul Islam Chowdhury read out the written statement before the pressmen .
The press conference was told that the city dwellers are deprieved of civic facilities during the last 4 years. The press meet was told that Mayor Manzoor came to power with 56 election pledges in 2010 including 17 short term, 10 midterm and 29 long term projects with prime project to mitigates the water-logging in the city.
The speakers in the meet said in the name of waterlogging project, about 200 crores taka were spent by City Corporation but nothing is sighted as yet to get relief from the waterlogging in the city. They said the city dwellers are deprived of conservancy service, medicare service and the worst conditions of city roads and lanes. Before beginning of the winter season, the low-lying areas of the city are submerged with water lack of proper dredging of canals and drains in the city. 46 urban health centres are running with miserable conditions.
Among others, City Planner Engr Ali Ashraf, Dr. Joyti Bikash Dutta, Prof. Dr; Sekandar Chowdhury, Muktijudda Commander Shahabuddin, Muktijudda Commander Mozzafar Ahmed, former councilor Momtaz Khan were present in the press meet.
