BSS, Dhaka :
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam urged city dwellers not to dump sewages into canals and other water bodies aiming to keep Dhaka city clean.
He came up with the call on Sunday while speaking at a workshop on sewerage management, arranged by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), at a city hotel here.
Speaking as the chief guest, Tajul said most of the city sewages are being dumped into canals and water bodies, polluting water and environment.
Stressing the need for forming a committee to find out a way to check the waste disposal and taking a work plan with specific timeframe to this end, he said: “Apart from loving people, we have to love the city where we live in. We also should love nature and environment.”
The LGRD minister said all the city dwellers should keep their houses and surroundings clean by not disposing wastes haphazardly and create a mentality to love the city.
Noting that the government has taken initiatives to set up five sewerage treatment plants to manage the city wastes, he said the construction works of Dasherkandi sewerage treatment plant has already been completed.
DNCC mayor Md Atiqul Islam and Local Government Division senior secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed were, among others, at the workshop.
