Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Sunday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) to run buses under six companies in capital Dhaka.
“The Prime Minister has directed the LGRD Ministry to implement late Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq’s plan to run the city’s buses under six companies,” Sayeed Khokon said this at a press briefing at Nagar Bhaban.
He said the LGRD Ministry will arrange a meeting on Monday on the issue. The decision about the matter will be finalised in the meeting, he added.
The DSCC mayor said, it is very important to bring discipline in public transport sector.
“No more anarchy to let to go in the public transport systems. In this view, the students’ agitation for road safety is logical. But now a certain quarter is hatching conspiracy over the issue. In this situation, I am requesting the students and their guardians to go back to home,” the mayor said.
Chief Waste Management Officer of DSCC Zahid Hossain and Chief Health Officer Sheikh Salah Uddin, among others, were present.
