The Criminal Investigation Department of Police has claimed that they found involvement of two foreign airlines in human trafficking in the Middle East and Europe from Bangladesh.
Five to seven officials of the two airliners have been called to the CID headquarters for questioning, said CID Chief, Additional Inspector General, Barrister Mahbubur Rahman at a press briefing at its headquarters on Tuesday
He said all of the victims have been trafficked from the country availing visit visas or conference visas. Usually if someone goes to any country on these visas, they should have a return ticket. But no one had got the return ticket.
This is the fault of the airlines. Their officers are involved. Most of the trafficked people went to these two airlines. We have also spoken to senior officials of the two airlines. They have also admitted that it should not happen.
However, the CID chief did not name the two airlines.
He said, “On October 16, Bangladesh police asked Interpol for help in arresting six human traffickers. On November 26, Interpol had issued red notices against six Bangladeshi nationals who were involved in human trafficking in various countries in the Middle East and Europe.
We are also looking into whether there are others like them in abroad, The CID official added.
Those against whom Interpol has issued red notices are Mintu Mia, Tanzimul alias Tanjid, Zafar Iqbal, Nazrul Islam Mollah, Shahadat Hossain and Swapan. Among them, Nazrul’s house is in Madaripur, Shahadat’s house is in Dhaka and the other four are in Kishoreganj. Tanzimul is currently in Italy.
Mahbubur Rahman said, “CID is investigating 25 out of 26 cases of human trafficking after the killing of 26 Bangladeshis in Libya on May 26. So far 181 people have been arrested. A chargesheet has been filed in a case filed in Habiganj. Of the arrested accused, 42 have given confessional statements in court.
