The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police claimed to have arrested a ringleader and two other members of a human trafficking racket who forced young women into prostitution in Dubai of the United Arab Emirates after trafficking them using tourist visas.
The arrested men were identified as ringleader Azam Khan and his two accomplices Anwar Hossain and Al Amin. Azam owned four hotels in Dubai, but recently was expelled from UAE after the authorities had unearthed his immoral activities. CID’s Deputy Inspector General (Organized Crime Unit) Imtiaz Ahmed in a press briefing at the CID headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday said that Azam and his racket had been trafficking young women to Dubai for years.
Several hundred women, mainly aged between 18-22, were trafficked to the country, some free of cost.
In Dubai, Azam used those trafficked women in hotel jobs and then forced them into working for dance bars before joining into prostitution.
The CID official said that they had filed a case with Lalbagh Police Station on July 2 and Azam Khan, meanwhile, confessed his involvement in the human trafficking trade.
Police said that they had arrested Azam and others in separate drives in the last two days, without disclosing the location of their arrest.
