Police in Chuadanga have arrested a local Awami League leader on charges of forging signatures of High court judges.
Shukur Ali, the organising secretary of a Union Council unit, has been detained at the wee hours of Sunday, said Chuadanga police OC Tozammel Haque. “Police started the case in August this year. He had been absconding since then,” he said. The police officer said that Ali was cleared by the district administration to
hold a fair between July 15 and 24 at Garhaitupi area. It was then extended for 15 more days after permission from the administration. “But the authorities shut it down on allegations that it promoted gambling.
After that, Shukur Ali produced a document purportedly signed by High Court justices Salma Masud Chowdhury and Md. Habibul Gani and claimed that he had legal clearance to hold the fair,” he told bdnews24.com. OC Haque said police opened probe in August after locals claimed that the signatures were forged. “Chuadanga police initiated the case on Aug 13 against Shukur Ali and 49 others.”
