The third meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts’ met on Thursday at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan to review implementation and progress of decisions taken at its previous meetings.
The chairman of the committee A M Ubaidul Muktadir Chowdhury was in the chair, while other members of the committee: Mohammad Subed Ali Bhuiya, M Abdul Latif, Ushatan Talukder, Firoza Begum (Chinu) and the minister of state for the ministry, Bir Bahadur U Shoi Singh participated.
The meeting was informed that to ensure health care in the Hill Tracts a letter had been sent to the ministry of health and family welfare to appoint doctors to fill up vacant positions from among local residents who have MBBS through BCS examinations or on an ad-hoc basis.
The committee recommended swift and effective action to fill up the vacant positions.
They also recommended filling up the vacant positions in the education institutions of the Hill Tracts.
The committee suggested that before transferring of personnel from the Hill Tracts to the plains the overall situation of the institution was to be taken into account. And it also advised the ministry not to release any personnel from their stations till his substitute had joined.
Secretary of the ministry and other concerned officials from the ministry and the parliament’s secretariat were present at the meeting.
