Chittagong Vikings made a sensational tie with Khulna Titans in their match of the UCB 6th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Saturday. By virtue of better performance in ‘Super Over,’ Chittagong Vikings won the match.
In the ‘Super Over’, Chittagong Vikings scored 11 runs while chasing winning target of 12-run, Khulna Titans scored 10 runs for the loss of one wicket.
Sent into bat first, Khulna Titans piled up a fighting total of 151 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, Chittagong Vikings made 151 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
Chiitagong Vikings had a sorrow start as opener Mohammad Shahzad (10) was caught at the cover by PR Stirling off Junaid Khan when Chittagong’s score was 12 for the loss of one wicket.
Then CS Delport and Yasir Ali repaired the damage adding together 39 runs for the second wicket partnership before Delport (17) was caught at the backward point by CR Brathwaite off Taijul Islam when Chittagong’s total was 51 for the loss of two wickets.
One-down Yasir Ali and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed together 35 runs in the third-wicket stand before Yasir Ali was caught at the deep square leg by Brathwaite off Shoriful Islam when Chittagong’s score was 86 for the loss of three wickets.
Yasir Ali notched up a superb 41. His 34-ball innings saw two fours and two sixes.
Number-Five batsman Sikandar Raza (0) was bowled out by Brathwaite when Chittagong’s total was 87 for the loss of four wickets.
Later, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mosaddek Hossain added together 32 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Mosaddek (12) was bowled out by Shoriful Islam when Chittagong’s score was 119 for the loss of five wickets.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the short fine leg by Shoriful Islam off Brathwaite when Chittagong’s total was 121 for the loss of six wickets.
Mushfiqur cracked a superb 34. His 26-ball innings was studded with two sixes and one four.
Frylink shone with the willow earning 19 runs in Ariful Haque’s and Khulna’s last over but Khulna failed to achieve victory for just one run as Frylink was run out by a joint-effort of Mahidul Islam and Mahmudullah.
Frylink made 23 from 13 balls featuring two sixes and one four.
Brathwaite and Shoriful Islam bagged a couple of wickets each at the cost of 30 and 31 runs respectively.
Ariful Haque, Taijul Islam and Junaid Khan took one wicket apiece.
Frylink was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Khulna Titans had a modest start as openers PR Stirling and Junaid Siddique put on together 31 runs in the opening stand before Stirling (18) was caught at the fine leg by Abu Jayed off Nayeem Hasan.
Then Junaid Siddique could stay at the crease for a short time as he (20) was caught at the point by Mosaddek Hossain off R Frylink when Khulna’s score was 41 for the loss of two wickets.
After Junaid’s dismissal, DJ Malan and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed together worth 77 runs for the third wicket partnership before Malan was caught at the long-off by Sikandar Raza off Abu Jayed when Khulna’s total was 118 for the loss of three wickets.
Malan hit a superb 45. His 43-ball innings was decorated with three fours and asixer.
After departure of Malan, Khulna failed to make any notable partnership. Riyad made 33 from 31 balls featuring four fours. Riyad was caught at the long-on by Sikandar Raza off Sunzamul Islam when Khulna’s score was 132 for the loss of five wickets.
Sunzamul Islam of Chittagong Vikings bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 37 runs, while Nayeem Hasan, Khaled Ahmed, Abu Jayed and Frylink took one wicket each for 16, 28, 29 and 32 runs respectively.
