Chittagong Vikings beat Rajshahi Kings by 19 runs in their match of the AKS Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 Cricket at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Friday.
Sent into bat first, Chittagong Vikings piled up a mammoth total of 190 for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then restricted Rajshahi Kings to 171 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.
Chittagong Vikings faced an early batting jolt as they lost their four wickets for 68 runs.
Opener Tamim Iqbal (5) was trapped leg before wicket by Mehedi Hasan Miraz when Chittagong’s score was 17.
Dwayne Smithn, the other opener of Chittagong was cleanly bowled out by Abul Hasan when Chittagong’s total was 41 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Grant Elliott (8) was stumped out by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Samit Patel when Chittagong’s score was 58 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Jahurul Islam (2) was caught at the long-on by Farhad Reza off Samit Patel when Chittagong’s total was 68 for the loss of four wickets.
After dismissal of Jahurul Islam, wicketkeeper-batsman Anamul Haque and Mohammad Nabi contributed together 105 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Anamul Haque was caught at the point by Samit Patel off Farhad Reza when Chittagong’s score was 173 for the loss of five wickets.
Mohammad Nabi remained unbeaten with 87. His 37-ball typhoon innings was ornamented with six sixes and six fours. Mohammad Nabi was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Anamul Haque hit an exact 50. His 40-ball knock was laced with four fours and two sixes.
Opener Dwayne Smith made 34 from 19 balls featuring six fours and a sixer.
Samit Patel bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 21 runs, while Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Farhad Reza, Abul Hasan took one wicket each conceding 18, 44 and 47 runs respectively.
Rajshahi Kings made a solid start as Mominul Haque and Junaid Siddique, the two openers put on together 44 runs before Mominul Haque (22) was caught at the cover by Jahurul Islam off Taskin Ahmed.
Then Junaid Siddique and Sabbir Rahman added 34 runs in the second wicket stand before Junaid Siddique was caught at the long-off by Mohammad Nabi off Grant Elliott when Rajshahi’s score was 78 for the loss of two wickets.
After dismissal of Junaid, Sabbir Rahman and Umar Akmal contributed together 34 runs for the third wicket stand before Umar Akmal (21) was caught by Dwayne Smith off Taskin Ahmed when Rajshahi’s total was 112 for the loss of three wickets.
After departure of Umar Akmal, Rajshahi batsmen failed to build any notable partnership.
Pacer Taskin Ahmed of Chittagong Vikings played the key role to mob up the middle-order and the tail-enders of Rajshahi. He bowled extremely well and finished as 4-0-31-5.
Sabbir Rahman of Rajshahi Kings hit a windy 46 from 30 balls with four sixes and a four.
Junaid Siddique made 38 off 28 balls featuring three sixes and a four.
Imran Khan of Chittagong Vikings bagged a pair of wickets instead of 28 runs, while Grant Elliott and Mohammad Nabi took one wicket each for 23 and 24 runs respectively.
