A high powered 26-member Chinese delegation visited both banks of the estuary of river Karnaphuli on Thursday where selected the proposed site of Karnaphuli Tunne. (KT).
The long awaited proposal of KT will be constructed with technical and financial assiantance of Chinese govt. Bangladesh Bridge Authority(BBA) will supervise the construction. KT was one of the election pledge of the Prime Minister as per long felt demand of the people of Chittagong.
The visiting Chinese delegation vists the KT site in the morning and exchanged views with the CDA chairman in the evening of Thursday.
Deputy Director of Economic Research Institute of Development and Reform commission of China Prof. San Xuegong led the delegation . Officials of foreign ministry of China, Embassy officials in Bangladesh, and other officials of Chinese development organizations in Bangladesh were included in the team.
Chittagong development authority sources said views exchange meeting was presided over by Chairman Abdus Salam at CDA conference room.
Among others chief engineer of BBA Kabir Ahmed, Executive Engineer Golam Murtaza, CDA Member Yonus Gani Chowdhury, Councilor Giasuddin, CDA Secretary Tahera Ferdous, City Planner Shahidul Ilslam, Deputy secretary Amal Guha were present in the meeting.
CDA sources said approximate Tk.7000 cr will be spent for construction of KT and length of the tunnel determined at 3 kilometers with 4 -lane passage. The approach road on both side of the Karnaphuli river finalized six kilometers l.
The leader of the Chinese team expressed satisfaction over the visit of tunnet sites and became proud of being a partner in Bangladesh development activities. CDA chairman congratulated the Chinese team for visiting the proposed site of the KT which is long felt demand of Chittagong.
