A Chinese state run construction company has shown their interest to construct a tunnel under the River Jamuna.
The interest was revealed when a delegation of Jigiang Construction Investment Group Company Limited called on visiting Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader in Hong Kong this morning.
The Chinese state run organization wants to construct the tunnel under the contacts between the governments of Bangladesh and China.
The minister suggested the company representatives to send their proposal formally to the government of Bangladesh under the existing rules of the country.
The visiting Bangladesh representatives including Ruhul Amin Siddique, Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and M Sarwar Mahmud, Bangladesh Consult General to Hong Kong, among others, were present during the meeting.
General Manger of the construction company Mr Shen De Fa headed the six-member representatives.
