UNB, Dhaka :
Though Bangladesh was expecting a top-level visit from China this year marking the ongoing celebrations of the 40th anniversary Bangladesh-China diplomatic relations, Chinese side is ‘not prepared’ for such a visit this year due to ‘heavy schedule’ of their leaders.
“It’s unlikely to see such visit this year. Rather, there’s a possibility to see Chinese President Xi Jinping in Bangladesh next year,” a senior official told UNB preferring anonymity.
The official said, the Chinese President is likely to visit India next year as India would be chairing the BRICS (Brazil, Russia,
India, China and South Africa) Summit from February 2016. The Chinese side will try to make a tour plan of Bangladesh for its President before or after the BRICS summit, said the official.
Earlier, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader informed the media that the Chinese President would visit Bangladesh this year during which both the countries were expecting to sign a number of development agreements. The Chinese side has already expressed willingness to enhance further the high-level contacts for more solid mutual trust.
Last year, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury visited China. The Speaker also visited China again recently.
The Chinese Vice Premier, Foreign Minister and Chinese Commerce Minister had also been in Dhaka.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met Chinese President Xi Jinping where both sides expressed willingness to continue such high-level contacts.
