High level officials from some major Chinese corporate houses will soon visit Bangladesh to explore investment opportunities in bigger projects.
The officials will include representatives of the companies from telecom, textile, infrastructure and agro-processing sectors.
“We are expecting visit of the high level delegates from China who would explore scope of investing in major and bigger projects in Bangladesh”, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu told media.
While speaking on the outcome of his bilateral meeting with Chinese high officials, the minister said he got very positive response from the Chinese authorities to the proposals for investing in priority sectors in Bangladesh.
The minister at a bilateral meeting with Chairman of the National Development Reform Commission (NDRC) Ning Jizhe on Monday sought Chinese investment in some priority sectors so the country could have a win-win situation in bilateral economic relations with China.
The priority sectors include agro-processing and agricultural tools and machineries industries, apparels, ICT, pharmaceuticals, leather and leather goods, light engineering and jute and jute products.
He also proposed China to set up joint venture in textile and leather sectors and relocate their labour-intensive industries to Bangladesh.
The NDCR chairman assured that they would consider the proposals for strengthening further the trade and investment relations with Bangladesh.
The NDRC, which is a state-run organization, formulates and implements strategies of national economic and social development and carry out research and analysis on domestic and international economic situation. Earlier this week a Chinese high official also told this news agency that the future policy of China towards assisting Bangladesh development would focus on industrial capacity building.
“We would like to take China’s multi-level relations with Bangladesh from trade and investment to the next level by extending its support to the country for industrial capacity building,” Cui Zhitao said.
The councilor of the Yunnan province said China’s future cooperation with the South Asian countries, including Bangladesh would be broad-based, depending on the growing shared interests and market demand.
At a meeting with media delegates from South Asia and Southeast Asian countries today (Tuesday) in Kunming, a top official of a key state-owned company in the construction sector in China said that his company would like to open a subsidiary in Bangladesh should there be any such opportunity made available.
