Chinese FM Wang Yi likely to visit Dhaka next month

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is likely to pay a visit to Dhaka in the first week of August for talks on a number of bilateral issues between the two friendly and developing partner countries. Momen about the visit and sought time from the Foreign Minister.
Dr Momen informed Li Jiming that he would not be available in Dhaka on the dates for his pre-scheduled engagement in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to attend 29th ASEAN Regional Forum.
Welcoming Wang Yi’s visit, Foreign Minister said Foreign Minister Wang Yi can visit Mongolia first and then come to Dhaka as he will be available on August 7.
Diplomatic observers are seeing Wang Yi visit very significant against the backdrop of pandemic and Ukraine war.
Apart from this, China is worried about the Indo-Pacific strategy of US and its partners in this region.
In addition, there has been continuous pressure on Bangladesh from US about the joining of the security alliance QUAD in this region especially in the area of Indian Ocean.
China does not want to miss any opportunity to lose its presence in this region in order to carry out its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for its economic importance.
So, the visit is being assumed very important for both Bangladesh and China. China has already a number of projects in Bangladesh including Padma Bridge.
Both sides have immense interest especially Bangladesh has a robust interest for China for its economic development in the country with the assistance of China.
Minister Wang is a member of the 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, State Councilor and a member of the Leading Communist Party of China Members Group of the State Council.
Wang Yi paid his last visit in Dhaka in November 2017.
