Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, now on a visit to China, sought Chinese assistance in energy sector for industrialization in the country.
“China can play an important role in industrialization by giving assistance in Bangladesh’s energy sector,” she said when she called on Chinese Vice-President Li Yuanchao.
During the meeting, they talked on issues of bilateral interest, including trade, investment and development. They stressed on further improving bilateral relations, said an official release here.
The speaker, who is also chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), appreciated China’s assistance for Bangladesh’s agriculture, industry, infrastructure and economic development and hoped that the assistance would continue in future.
Li Yuanchao said China has a long friendly relationship with Bangladesh.
This relationship would further consolidate in future, he added.
The Chinese vice-president hoped that along with expansion of all types of trade, bilateral relations of cooperation and friendship would enhance further in future.
He assured continued Chinese assistance for socio-economic development in Bangladesh.
Earlier, Speaker Shirin Sharmin called on party secretary of Yunan provincial committee LiJiheng at his office.
